As an artist, I enjoy painting a variety of subjects. I mainly use acrylics or oils in a more impressionist style, but like to experiment with other mediums and styles as well in creating a work of art. For the paintings in this show I used a palette knife extensively, which I found allowed a greater freedom to explore the colour harmonies in the landscape.
My portfolio includes portrait, landscape, wildlife and botanical paintings and drawings. My interest in art started at a young age. From early childhood I loved to draw, especially faces and figures. After graduating from nursing school, I attended Goshen College, Indiana, USA, where I received a BA in Fine Arts with an art major.
Over the two decades, since retiring from community nursing, I have had four solo shows and as well have participated in several group shows each year. These shows have included exhibits with the Vancouver SketchClub, the Hycroft Painters, the Arts Connection (Ferry Building Gallery), and Art in the City. In January 2020 I had a show with one other artist at the Britannia Art Gallery. Welcoming visitors to my studio at Portside Studios during the East Side Culture Crawl is a pleasure. I especially enjoy having discussions with them about art and the creative process.
