As an artist I create a memory of an experience, a feeling, a place of where one was or even an invitation for a dialogue on a world event or situation. Through my Geometric Abstract work I invite the viewer to look into, to introspect and experience the particular subject bringing in a type of focus that otherwise would have been merely a fleeting thought. I see the work through my lens and interpretation but I would like the viewer to make a meaning of the work themselves focusing in on their life stories.
Color in my work takes center stage with expression and meaning derived from the subtleties of color temperature, tone and an overall mood that it offers. I look at geometric forms and shapes and their relation to each other to create balance, harmony and contrast bringing them into the composition to create the work. The inspiration for my work comes from observing, seeing and feeling mostly in color. Mother nature, the world and things around us and our every experience mine and everyone’s shapes my work. My process is like a season from one to the next.
Subconsciously I think it comes from my very own lifestyle. I like some change bringing in a dynamic experience, a wave of new emotions and feelings. Most of the time my work starts from looking at color and an understanding of what energy it creates. What would that color remind me of. I look at the relations that the colors I choose have with each other to see if they fit, if they harmonize. Sometimes I make small thumbnail size compositions on paper to compose the geometric shapes with intersecting lines with the color relations and then create the finished work on canvas.
Other times I directly draw out a composition on canvas and then lay in color. It is only after the work is finished I look at what is signifies unless I have already explored a given subject. My abstract paintings are considered to be hardedge, so I spend hours layering color to get the right color depth and painting the edges with tight precision. The line work keeps the form and adds in detail while tying in the entire work together to create an aesthetically pleasing piece of art.
