Kyle Fang

(b. 1997) is a contemporary photographic artist born in Zhongshan, China, and based in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Fang became interested in photography in his elementary and high school days, learning film photography, darkroom techniques, and photojournalism under the mentorship of several teachers. Guided by the mantra that “all things are photographable,” Fang dedicates himself to documenting everyday life, asking us to ponder the social landscape, the life within it, and the beauty of light and form in the mundane.

He works with film, developing his own black and white images and making silver gelatin prints in the darkroom. Fang’s work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions and in his self-published photo book Delta (2020). He is currently working on an ongoing project spanning six years. Fang is a member of the West End Photographic Society (WESP) and the Vancouver Street Photography Collective (VanSPC).
